Jim’s experience in building design and construction goes back to 1981 when he started working alongside his father at Willson Design. I’m really into West Coast Contemporary and 1950’s style. There’s something about how they blend indoor and outdoor spaces so well, incorporate natural materials, and clean lines. It’s the simplicity that makes this such a timeless yet retro design choice.
Think like a builder when designing. Draw and design the project to make it easier for the builder. I must say it’s worked out well as builders always tell me how they love our plans.
I’m always looking at buildings and seeing what could have been done differently. This inspires me to take some of those ideas and create a better design.

- Relentless Perfectionist
Cam brings 16 years of experience at Willson Design and specialises in custom homes and major renovations. An artist at heart, Cam is able to hear client’s ideas and needs, provide creative direction, and ultimately deliver a design concept and plans that wow. His personal design philosophy is to never settle for “good enough” even if it means taking the road less travelled. He works closely with team members in the office to provide a smooth positive experience for all clients.
Our clients put a lot of effort into dreaming and thinking about their dream home, so getting to see their faces light up with excitement when we reveal the design to them gets me every time.
From you! Each project is special and I’m constantly inspired by each client, their personality and unique needs. There are also a lot of great tools like Instagram, Houzz, and Pinterest, but sometimes I do just find myself lying in bed, trying to solve a complex design problem in my head, only to be solved when I revisit it the next morning.
Don’t be afraid to take more risks. I am not a natural risk taker and it's a skill that I have had to hone over the years and am still learning. Good design ideas definitely require a certain amount of risk and I've learned when to step out and just do it.
I love yoga! I started several years ago as a way to counteract my desk job and have stuck with it since.
Taylor Cunningham Design Technician
Areas of Expertise
- 3D Renderings and Visualization
- Revit
- Building Modelling
- Coffee Connoisseur
Taylor brings a strong background in Revit and plan preparation with a knack for creative design and three dimensional renderings. Taylor has always dreamed of getting to design homes and help others and now she gets to do it every day. Her typical day consists of designing, preparing projects for permit application, chatting with consultants, and a fair amount of caffeine.
I love that we are moving away from exclusively using black and white and now leaning into mixing lots of textures and tones which makes things so warm and timeless. Also, I like that the completely open floor plan is phasing out because it feels drafty and exposed. I'm all about private cozy rooms that make a home feel like home.
I love that I'm able to shift multiple roles within a day, from rendering to drafting to a sprinkle of designing. It keeps things interesting and exciting. I'm always learning new things as I work with our team, clients, and others involved in the permitting and building process.

I'm good at drawing by hand but I haven't since high school.

At first I wanted to be a doctor because I thought it’d be cool to be a doctor. Then I wanted to be an astronaut but soon realised it wasn’t that easy!
