Our Home Designers are artists at heart.

This means that our job is to take the vision in our minds and present it in a way that anyone can picture. Throughout the process of designing your home we will use a number of tools to make sure you clearly understand how your home is shaping up.

These tools are essential in our collaborative process - without them you wouldn’t be able to provide complete feedback and have full confidence in your plans.

BRINGING THE WOW FACTOR Photorealistic 3D Renderings

Why We Use Visuals Throughout Your Project (And Not Just Because They're Nice Looking)

Visuals play a crucial part of our collaborative design process as we capture and refine your home plans. Many clients struggle to visualize dimension, scale, and perspective.

And that's ok - we don't expect you to! This is where we've got you covered, from simple hand concept sketches to computer generated modeling to photorealistic renderings and even walkthroughs.

There's plenty of design tools available to help along the way to help us achieve:

Make confident decisions about your home design by visualizing the end result. Our visuals empower you to see the details and make adjustments early in the process to help save time and money.

HANDDRAWN WITH CARE Concept Sketches

From our very first meeting to putting initial ideas onto paper to making changes and revisions our Designers are constantly sketching exterior views and layouts. This is one of the best ways to play around with different ideas and test out the waters for your personal design preferences, styles, and what could be.

2D Floor Plans FLOW AND FUNCTION

Don't underestimate the power of a simple layout of your home on a paper. It's the foundation of functionality and the backbone of creating your future 3D exterior and renderings down the road, along with the starting point of the actual blue prints your builder will use. Every aspect of the design has been thoroughly detailed in the set of final plans. This gives your builder a more accurate way of estimating the total cost of construction and helps eliminate unforeseen elements that can pop up during construction.

Complete, Accurate and Readable House Plans

"As general contractors of both custom homes and large renovation projects we have worked with a number of design companies in the Fraser Valley. We have experienced the frustration of working with plans that are confusing, hard to read and lacking important details and information.  These omissions and oversights unnecessarily complicate the entire building process which creates added cost and frustration for everyone involved. A complete, accurate and readable set of house plans is an absolute must for us. For this reason our preferred design company for all our building projects is Willson Design.”

Our Designers love to use these in our meetings to give you live walkthroughs of your space so you can visualize movement throughout the home and how it will meet your needs on a day-to-day basis.

The collaboration with Willson Design on our one and only dream home was nothing short of fantastic. Our expectations were wildly exceeded. We still have to remind ourselves we actually live in this house. Willson Design helped us take a loose concept in our minds to an actual living dream. Thanks!

GLAD YOU ASKED! Visual and 3D Rendering FAQ’s

Renderings serve as powerful visual tools to enhance your understanding of the house design. They help you visualize the building's massing and scale, providing a clear depiction of the spatial relationships. Renderings also offer a more approachable view of the space and its environment. Realistic details in the renderings allow you to visualize colors, landscaping, and finishes, akin to how you would perceive them in a photograph. This comprehensive visual aid ensures you have a vivid and accurate representation of your future home. They are also fun to share with friends and family as you start to show off your new home!

At Willson Design, visuals included in your custom home design project typically consist of hand sketches and exterior 3D views, providing a comprehensive depiction of your home's exterior. Additionally virtual tours and fly-arounds are typically included during our meetings to offer an immersive experience. Please note that color renderings are available at your request.

Visualizations are highly accurate representations of how the building is intended to look, showcasing exterior finishes and materials. While these tools provide a detailed preview, it's important to note that minor adjustments may be made on-site during the construction phase to accommodate specific conditions or preferences.

The creation of visualizations for a house design is seamlessly integrated into our design process. Inclusion of 3D views is a standard part of our design workflow. The timeline for color rendering typically takes around a week, from when we start the rendering.

Yes you can definitely request this! Our Home Designers will likely use the most important views, such as the view from the road or views or more elaborate design aspects of the home. If there is a certain view you want additional clarity just lets us know.

Color renderings play a crucial role in the approval process, especially for obtaining a Development Permit. They serve as visual representations that are often required to present the proposed design to council, neighbors, and relevant stakeholders. These renderings provide a vivid and detailed preview, facilitating a better understanding and garnering support during the approval phase. Renderings are typically not required for most building permit applications.

The power of Artificial Intelligence is very cool and we have played around with a number of tools that create digital renderings and representations of floorplans. They are also a great tool to use to get inspired and generate ideas. These are not without flaw and we haven’t found a tool that is precise and detailed enough (at this time) to replace our technical and artistic skill. Feel free to play around with it if you want, but when it comes to final decisions it’s best to use professional rendering services.

Yes we offering digital 3D photorealistic renderings as a standalone service if you need. Contact our office to discuss your existing design or building plans and we can provide accurate costs and timeline for your specific rendering needs.
